Welcome to a sweet show!
We invite you to join us for a tasting of sweet pleasures: come indulge in a delectable selection of saccharine cocktails and aesthetic bon bons – at Material, Zürich.
Who is Claudia Bertani, the sultry cherry inspector testing the fruits that will end up in the liquor filled core of a certain chocolate candy? Why do common myths repeatedly correlate cuteness with the feminine and powerlessness? These and many more cute questions beg to be asked, a syrupy cocktail in hand … The works and performers gathered in the program of this special evening interrogate patriarchal and repressive myths, minor aesthetic categories such as cuteness, camp and kitsch and the dubious notion of bad taste.
Together with students of the Master Fine Arts at ZHdK we recently explored taste both in relation to aesthetic judgement as well as the pleasures of (culinary) consumption during a week-long seminar. As part of the seminar, the publication Velvet Kisses has been produced with the students and the juicy fruits of our collective labour will be served to you hot off the press.
Instead of rejecting cuteness and so-called bad taste, we shall bask in sweetness until we ..
