Workshop
Stitching poems - Maria Motyleva
Jan. 31st, 5pm – 9pm, 2023
Creating a textile illustration based on poetry (Price 75 CHF)
People have been telling their stories and poems on fabrics since ancient times all over the world. We’ll see some examples of storytelling and poetic expression in textile: scrapbooks, textile diaries, story cloths and artist's books. Participants will learn some embroidery techniques and apply them to their own visual language and poetic regard. Bring poems you love.
Maria Motyleva is an artist who primarily uses textiles and embroidery as her main medium. She grew up between Moscow and Northern Caucasus and lived in Europe since her early 20s. She graduated from Moscow State University of Printing Arts with a master thesis on Artist Book. In 2016 she entered Ar.Co Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual in Lisbon where she studied Illustration and Comics, after joining in 2019 an online program of the “Textile Laboratory” dedicated to research and experiments with textile. It was then, when Maria's focus of interest has shifted towards the textile art practices within the context of contemporary art, after which she graduated from Ar.Co’s plastic arts department.
