Alexandra Sheherazade Salem - Lessons from Silence
Nov. 2nd, 6pm – 8th, 10pm 2023
Alexandra Sheherazade Salem is an artist, poet and performer based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Writing and poetry form the core of her practice, which extends into the realms of performance, video, and installation.
Her work revolves around the preservation of memory and the act of nurturing, in a search for the meaning of home. Extracting materials from her childhood, autobiographical events and her environment, she layers fragmented family narratives, everyday gestures and intimate dialogues, giving rise to emotional landscapes that invite viewers to contemplate our connections to what we inherit, what is forgotten, what remains and how these relationships dwell in our bodies.
Through a poetic and vulnerable approach, Alexandra seeks to illuminate manifestations of love and hope in what surrounds us, drawing attention to subtle yet significant gestures that hold meaning.
