Publisher Note
Constellations marks the 50th anniversary of Michael Kenna’s artistic career and it presents a selection of
photographs from his oeuvre.
Best known for his unusual black-and-white landscapes, Kenna creates ethereal images by setting up 10-hour exposures across night and day, with prolonged concentrations on the ephemeral and atmospheric conditions of the natural world and its interactions with manmade structures. This publication captures the artist’s reflections on the imprint of time and the poetry of landscapes by retracing his journeys: nature, cities, and industrial sites in northern England, Detroit, France, Italy, the United States, Japan, China, Thailand, and Korea.
Published on the occasion of the 2025/26 exhibiton at the Musée de la photographie Charles Nègre in Nice (France).
