This year, "The Most Beautiful German Books 2023" were once again documented in a catalog and presented to the public for the first time at our awards ceremony. The PARAT.cc team from Munich was responsible for the conception of the new publication.

Every year, the "Most Beautiful German Books" competition brings together the most amazing designers and the most sophisticated production ideas. This year's catalog aims to take things down a notch and be as simple as possible. Simple and practical – like a telephone book when it still had meaning. All information about an award-winning book is presented together, with each book given as much space as possible, shown and illustrated from all sides. A thumb index provides an overview and optimal usability.

The catalog poses the following question: How do we standardize beauty? Quite provocatively on the cover: embossed gold on pink. And then somewhat provocatively on the inside, with its maximum brittleness: printed on grayish paper, typeset in an oversized, staid Arial font, accompanied by very sober scans and a pragmatic index.
