Publisher Note
Between 2005 and 2008, Mantilla and Chaves made various trips to Latin America. In one of them they visited the Library of the Center for Theological Studies of the Amazon (CETA) in the Peruvian city of Iquitos. Years later, wanting to delve into the inconsistencies generated by the clash between the jungle and the city, they carried out a series of visits to that town in order to digitally collect documents from the Amazon Library, as well as from the Library of the Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon (IIAP) and other sources of printed and bibliographical materials of interest.
This work gave rise to a work entitled "An uncomfortable desire", which develops an extensive work halfway between the story and the investigation, to play in the disparate and dystopian space that opens between the iconographic sources and their contexts. Continuing this work, the artists go a step further, placing special emphasis on the scrapping of the images, stripping them of all meaning, reducing them to their own nakedness of signs, which once alluded to a specific place.
The exhibition was held at CentroCentro, Madrid, from February 21 to June 9, 2019.
