This artist’s book was originally featured in Dongwan Kook’s solo exhibition of the same name (PLACEMAK2, 2020). The artist made 41 free association drawings depicting a foetus in the womb, with each image corresponding to one of the 40 weeks of its gestation period. Kook also wrote 41 short texts to accompany her drawings and compiled them into a book. In addition, the illustrations and writings have independent narratives that influence each other without defining logic. Thus, the artist’s inner landscape, wrapped in a web called “life”, tells a story of growth and development in which all humanity swims in a primordial soup, “eagerly penetrating and splitting into each other”.
