Publisher Note

This photobook - published in pocket format - in addition to proposing a visual anthology that covers and synthesizes a creative work of several decades, it includes a chronological review of the most important points of the artistic life of Cortés and a critical text written by Juan Carlos Palenzuela (researcher, essayist, author of important studies on the Venezuelan visual arts, who died in 2007).
Diana Vilera, director of La Cueva, explains that this editorial work is part of the National Photography Awards series, specially conceived to disseminate the work of those who have been distinguished in Venezuela with the National Culture Award –Photography Mention– from 1990.

In 2015 La Cueva opened the collection of photo pockets with an anthology of his best images, prefaced by the critic Juan Carlos Palenzuela in the following terms: "It is the street where the most significant fragment of Joaquín Cortés's photography takes place. The street as an open space, always surprising and variable. There his work is established from the parameters of social documentalism but the compositional sense will be refined, concentrating on a few elements to delve into the loneliness of contemporary city man. "

Cortés died in Venezuela on May 7, 2019, having entrusted La Cueva with a long video interview about his work and a book that collects his experiences and learnings in the photographic trade.
