Publisher Note

On January 11, 2016, the photo documentation was published in three languages to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti. The 44 photographs, some of which are unpublished, show Alberto Giacometti during his last stay in his Graubünden home valley, Bergell. They mark the end of his life and career and document the funeral on January 15, 1966. Short biographies and selected obituaries provide the context for his work and its importance at the time. An insert sheet with a map allows you to find the places where the photographs were originally taken and invites you to take a documented walk from Giacometti's home village of Stampa to his final resting place in the cemetery of San Giorgio in Borgonovo.

With this photo documentation, the Centro Giacometti pays tribute to the artist who, despite his world fame, kept returning to Bergell and especially to his home village of Stampa. The photographic focus on the life and surroundings of Alberto Giacometti during his last stay in Bergell, in combination with an explanatory map of the route, makes the publication not only an important contemporary document, but also a current tourist instrument. The trilingualism makes reading and use on site accessible to a broad interest group.
