In 2011, when we held Takashi Homma's exhibition “OUR MOUNTAIN” at Papier Labo, we decided to experiment with paper and printing using photographs, leading to the creation of this book.
From over 100 mountain photographs, we selected one image, created a relief plate, and printed it using a letterpress machine. By adjusting the ink volume and pressure, we gradually increased the density, ultimately achieving a deep black. The darkest version was printed ten times in succession.

We then scanned the finished product and printed it using offset.
However, achieving the deep, rich texture of letterpress black simply couldn't be done with standard single-color black printing. So, we employed a complex printing process: three-color black printing, applying varnish, and using seven plates.
This makes it a work with a distinct character, different from a typical photo book.
The title on the cover is letterpress printed, and it is bound using white staples.
