Publisher Note
Riga Rom consists of a series of photographs made during an artist residency Bergman did in Riga, Latvia. The photographs depict objects, architecture and details from her surroundings at the studio in Riga. Bergman’s work is characterized by improvised continuity and she depicts her surroundings as an examination of how sight works. She works with an objectivity that is not documentary, but rather mental and poetic, where she exploits chance as a tool. Bergman´s photographs creates disorder in our coded gaze and show us an intangible world beyond facts and language. In this way, sight can function as an introverted, bodily act.
