Notes

Artist's book by Roland Topor; all sentences were scratched, making the 'Fluxus' book unreadable and therefore 'unsaleable'. Via Wim de Bie (Bieslog): In 1971, publisher Jaco Groot was talking in a Paris cafe with the artist Roland Topor. The conversation was about illegible books. "I made a book like that," said Topor, "tomorrow, same time, same cafe, I'll bring it." When Groot saw the book the next day, he said to Topor's stupid astonishment: "We'll publish it!" The book was published by Thomas Rap Publishers, followed in 1975 by a second edition at De Harmonie Publishers. Topor was interviewed by Adriaan van Dis in his book program. Van Dis handed Topor the illegible book and asked him to read a piece. Topor, unprepared for this, spontaneously put a hand to his mouth and began to read, muttering and incomprehensible. Publisher Groot is the only one in the world who knows which text was made illegible by Topor.
