For his "Tableaux chinois" series, Thomas Ruff digitally processed propaganda images of China from the period between 1950 and 1970, which the Chinese Communist Party distributed worldwide in various languages with the help of the magazine "La Chine" and has now published them in a large-format photo book. By linking the print screen of the "analogue" offset print of the template with the "digital" structure of the pixel image, the 20th century propaganda images are transported into the visual language of the 21st century.
