Alanna LaGamba (born 1993 in Toronto) is a vintner well known for her expressive natural wines. She first encountered natural wine in 2014, where she worked in a fine dining restaurant next to her studies at the University of Toronto. A place where, in Alanna's own words, one wouldn’t expect natural wine, let alone order it, but for her it was “love at first sip”. After graduating from university in Toronto, Alanna moved to Berlin where she would work as a sommelier. After meeting Martin Wörner of Marto wines she joined him at his family vineyard in Rheinhessen, where she deepened her knowledge of winemaking and harvesting. In 2019 Alanna created her first wine “Frauenpower”, drawing inspiration from her Italian heritage and Lambrusco, by blending Dornfelder with Sylvaner. Since then, she has experimented further with unusual blending varieties, while also trying out different skin contact techniques. Characterised by minimal intervention, relating to both cultivation and pressing, Alanna’s distinctive winemaking style results in expressive, energetic natural wines. |
