Publisher Note

This monograph is published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Museum of Textiles of St. Gallen, showing the creations of the fashion label Akris. Among the rich and famous who wear this brand are politician such as Condoleezza Rice, as well as Hollywood stars such as Susan Sarandon, Nicole Kidman, and Brooke Shields.

This monograph provides, for the first time, an insight into the process of developing and creating the garments, starting from the first sketch through to the catwalk presentations in Paris. Drawing on the company's own textile archive, the publication also shows the renowned designer Albert Kriemler's contribution to Akris' success. Up until the early 1990s, Akris worked in close cooperation with the famous New York fashion photographer Steven Klein, whose photographs are documented in a lavish insert. In addition, the book includes detailed information about the company's history, with original sources and historic reviews, thus giving the full story of the St. Gallen label's rise, to now rank amongst the top fashion houses of the world.
