Publisher Note
In "Beyond Binary" Jeannette Petri portrays persons with the intent to demonstrate that gender is an infinite spectrum, on which "male" and "female" are merely two points. The ages range from 15 to 72 and alongside the portraits, the protagonists offer personal insights into their diverse realities and emotional states through handwritten letters (in German and English). These include topics such as gender diversity, neurodiversity, ableism, racism, privilege, polyamorous relationships, parenthood and aging, trauma and discrimination.
Beyond Binary showcases the visibility, self-determination, and empowerment of people with (trans*) non-binary gender identities across several generations.
Published through a crowdfunding campaign.
