Publisher Note

Nelson Henricks lives and works in Montreal, where he has taught at Concordia University (1995 – present), McGill University (2001- 2003) and Universite du Quebec, Montreal (1999, 2003). He has also taught at the University of Toronto (2003). A musician, writer, curator and artist, Henricks is best known for his videotapes, which have been exhibited worldwide.

Steve Reinke is an artist and writer known for his single channel videos, which have been exhibited internationally. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Guelph and York University, as well as a Masters of Fine Arts from NSCAD University. His video works have proved to be very influential, specifically The Hundred Videos (1989-1996) project.

By the Skin of Their Tongues is an anthology of seventeen video and film scripts and eight essays by some of Canada’s leading media artists, including Colin Campbell, Lorraine Dufour and Robert Morin, Vera Frenkel, Rodrigue Jean, Gary Kibbins, Robert Lee, Jan Peacock, Paulette Phillips, Tom Sherman, Cathy Sisler, Lisa Steele, and Tariasuk Women’s Collective.
