Publisher Note

Worlds in the making is a collection of images and testimonies from communities around the world. It develops universal human themes such as childhood and adolescence in the face of history, women, the right to choose one's love, discrimination, ecology, freedom and death. Over time, the project has become more and more similar to a travelling theatre. Large format installations are made outdoors with the help of a part of the village or neighbourhood. These heroes of a day take to the stage, actors of their own story, the word rises to create a dialogue with their entire community.

Nicolas Henry pays special attention to personal anecdotes, dreams or collective wrath, daily difficulties  or transformational initiatives, weaving a universe around a story he has been told, and proposes his resolution in crafted form. Based on the story,  the team, with the help of the local population, creates an object, a device, a thingamajig, a centre-pin of frenetic activity.

Nicolas Henry’s stagings are not in any way journalistic. The artist constructs a ragman’s world of baroque, building a set composed of found objects and recycled elements.
The construction of the space of the image is inspired by the realm of childhood, inferring symbolic elements: a carpet becomes the sea, a bottle is a mountain, etc., limited only by the artist’s imagination. Nicolas Henry’s imagination is on display as he creates his framework as a painter constructs his painting. He stages the stories of the people he meets along the journey. He takes us along as he travels the world.
