"Camp 1979 (Cover A, Signed)" is a collection of works by Keizo Kitajima, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers. As seen in his regular exhibitions and photo books, "Untitled Records," Kitajima's current style is to talk about things and events through "landscapes." On the other hand, in the early 1970s, Kitajima's work was centered on grainy monochromes that made full use of the are-bure technique reminiscent of his mentor Daido Moriyama, and was characterized by its impactful images, so much so that Moriyama nicknamed him "Street Sniper." He enrolled as a second-year student in the legendary Terakoya-style photography school "WORKSHOP" run by Shomei Tomatsu and Daido Moriyama, and visited Okinawa with the comrades he met there. Later, he founded the self-managed gallery "Image Shop CAMP" in Shinjuku 2-chome, and embarked on an unprecedented experiment in which he copied and printed works every night in Tokyo, immediately exhibited them in the gallery, and also sold a booklet, under the title "Photography Express."
