Publisher Note
Jan von Holleben focuses on the ‘homo ludens’ – the man who learns through play – and integrates this pedagogical theory with personal experiences of play and memories of childhood.
In Dans l’air (Dreams of Flying) the artist brings childhood dreams to life: accompanied by his neighbors' children, he began this photographic project, inspired by classic children's literature as much as by superheroes. The children told him wild stories that Jan van Holleben staged. With a flat perspective he photographs his models lying on the ground from the top of a ladder, using a small Nikon camera.
