Publisher Note

While Walter Niedermayr dealt with the mountain world around Lech am Arlberg in his last book, this publication shows his 7 years of work in the valley community of Fleims, Trentino-South Tyrol. In the eleven municipalities that have managed joint property for almost 1000 years, he was mainly interested in building culture. To this day, special living typologies have been preserved and developed there: hybrid transition zones between private, semi-public and public areas, which from today's perspective seem more topical than ever. Over the centuries, a strong sense of community for a careful use of spatial resources and common uses has developed in this spatial network. Common characteristics especially in the spatial structuring of the villages are striking and are partly visible in diptychs, but to a greater extent in typological sequences. In this photographic work, Walter Niedermayr traces the suitability of these forms of living and living for everyday use, and ultimately the sustainability of the structural and social village structures in the Fiemme Valley.
