Notes

The making of the book - no glue, just paper cut, folded and sewn - is like one of clothes. All pages are printed on the same paper. The book exists in two versions: a bound edition and an unbound one. In the unbound version, text and images can be rearranged by the reader.

Publisher Note

La Disparition is a conceptual and visual book that explores French identity and collective memory through the juxtaposition of two seemingly disparate events from 2018: the Paris Fashion Weeks and the Gilets Jaunes protests. These events—both performative, both public—are treated as mirrored enactments of the same phenomenon: the collective ritual of time, echoing the philosophical idea of the Eternal Return. Drawing from 19th-century insurrectionary literature, the book questions how power is performed, challenged, and made visible—or erased—in public space. At the center of the text that comes like a book within the book, revealing and disrupting the image sequence—is Vendôme: at once the iconic Parisian square and a small provincial town. This nodal point collapses geography and symbolism.
