In Metafisica concreta Giovanni Maria Sacco takes us on a fascinating photographic journey through Italy. The book is full of black and white photographs, many on large format film, which reconstruct the features of Italian rationalist architecture and mysterious and alienating places.
These images have a strong emotional impact, despite the buildings, monuments and churches being devoid of decorations, completely bare, to signify their true essence, which goes beyond time because the truth of things is eternal. The author approaches his subjects through photography in an attempt to reveal what exists beyond appearance. Metaphysics deals with what goes beyond the physical universe that we perceive: in this work the camera becomes a tool to create metaphors and to describe what for the author is metaphysics or, as the title suggests through an oxymoron, a concrete metaphysics.
