Publisher Note

Percevoir, the collection dedicated to emerging talents in photography, welcomes Noémie Goudal: regularly exhibited in France and abroad, her work casts doubt on the notion of landscape, as well as on the fragility of our presence on Earth.

Noémie Goudal works with photography, video and installations; she builds images where an architectural element that seems archetypal – and yet reinvented – fits into a vast landscape. These trompe-l'oeil architectures, often in two dimensions, disturb the image: the ambiguity of perception responds with a feeling of strangeness, further reinforced by the absence of direct human presence. Man is only a trace, an invisible and soon forgotten architect. Thus, the images of Noémie Goudal leave room for multiple interpretations as much as they question the fragility of our presence on Earth. In parallel, the philosopher Guillaume Logé delivers his reflections on the articulation of the gaze with art and ecology.

To perceive (verb tr.) : to grasp, to take cognizance by the senses, intuition or understanding. Éditions de La Martinière encourages new talents in photography and the visual arts through “Percevoir”, a collection of books that takes another look at the image: moving, fragmentary and multiple, like the world around us. Each artist has a unique response. A collection directed by Simon Baker, director of the European House of Photography.
