Homage to Daido Moriyama's Series "Records"

Frankfurt, Manchester, Darmstadt, Aarhus and Colmar—cities I wasn’t sure how to combine. Stretched over almost nine months, this recording depicts a time lapse of an intense time frame. Some periods should have been published in their own chapter of Records. But since this is still an experiment for myself, I do not want to mourn all the pictures that could not find a place in this flow of images.

I believe it is the nature of private or emotional-intuitive photography that over time the photographer looses his or her personal relationship to
some pictures equally to the feelings of the situation he or she recorded through the camera. It felt strange combining pictures from the recent past with pictures from a complete different season of the year, pictures with a different intensity. Apparently a lot of these photographs have to be printed elsewhere.

This Record probably contains more and even longer stories than the initial idea meant it to tell. Only looking at the trip to Alsace in March together with an old friend. It started rather spontaneously; the decision to go was a brief one; but the photographs almost only show places from my youth. Scenes I had seen over ten years ago but now revisited in a complete different perspective. Distances seemed so much shorter than in my memories, places changed their appearance and locations appeared I never had seen before. And still I could manoeuvre through the streets in heavy fog without a map or looking at directions just following my intuition.
While it felt strange to combine several time frames it did not seem peculiar to combine these feelings through the intuition of my daily life.

For someone with no knowledge about the stories (which I do not expect to
be told or understood in this recording) it might only be No. 3, but for me it is a Record of almost a full year of pure joy—the joy of conserving a small
rectangular detail in a split second, a happening seen from where the camera was, where my attention was, where my intuition kicked in.
