Oil is the first publication in a series of artist books of the German photographer Peter Tillessen.
The rainbow-coloured shimmering oil leaks seem artificially staged. Captured by the photographer during several strolls through the city, they point to a widespread daily phenomenon, which is known to every urban promeneur. Tillessen’s photographs reveal the immanent beauty as well as the fascinating colour palette and abstract formal language of the oil leaks. The photographer transforms a trivial appearance into an artistic associative image.
