Jean-Marc Yersin documents the TAMOIL oil refinery in Collombey-Muraz, near Monthey in Valais, before this huge pile of scrap metal disappeared, At the beginning of August 2021, demolition work on the refinery began with the dismantling of the first of 54 oil tanks in the storage park on the Rhône.
The subject fits into his photographic “Notebooks”, which are now reaching their fourth booklet. They all deal in fact with “another time”. That of the roaring years of industrialization and concreting. “Post Petra Oleum” contains images taken in 2020 courtesy Pier Luigi Colombo, who then managed the remains of the deserted refinery.
