Publisher Note

“Remix” is published on the occasion of the exhibition of the Zurich artist Laurent Goei at the Kunstmuseum Solothurn. The unpretentious publication provides a straightforward insight into a multi-layered work. The monographic volume, which includes documentation of all major exhibitions since 2001, follows on directly from Goei’s first publication “The Debut Album”. A text by the curator Sabine Rusterholz precisely analyses the context of the works and classifies the projects.
In his artworks, Laurent Goei formulates his perception of everyday life in a combination of language and writing, sculpture and installation. He discovers the extraordinary in everyday situations and captures the fleeting in poetic snapshots. He collects quotations and images of icons from films, the history of art, rock and fashion, and everyday life and combines them into collages or installations that reflect contemporary sensibilities.
As the title of the publication suggests, the present volume is a remix of reproductions from the artist's work documentation and image collection. The book pages are printed in direct offset from paper originals. The way they are made corresponds directly with the artist’s work and working method and opens up surprising insights into his works. A booklet with a series of colour reproduced Polaroïds completes the black and white publication as a “bonus track”.
