Publisher Note

The digitally drawn pictures, the sculptural works and also the spatial installations by Sonja Kretz (1980) are characterized by a conscious approach to the fragmentary. For the present publication, the Aarau-based artist draws with image fragments and thus creates heterogeneous images reminiscent of landscapes, which at times seem fantastic and bizarre. But the individual elements of the pictures always allow us to draw conclusions about concrete realities, or to recognize elements from the works of Sonja Kretz. It is a seemingly infinitely growing universe, which is constantly forming itself anew, which can be opened up here in seven chapters, each consisting of one collage and folded into a 16-page volume. Sonja Kretz creates completely new possibilities for her artistic practice in and with the book. She spreads out her pictorial world before us and works with her picture archive, which she has built up over many years. The book creates a new vessel for her fundus, is both a comprehensive container and an ordering grid. A text by Lena Friedli introduces the book, and between the double pages of pictures word constellations by Severin Perrig appear in response to these collages and expand the field of associations of the artist’s universe of images.
