| A dream made of ice, a dream in white...blue, green and gray: in the hall of mirrors of the glacier caves
Glaciers, volcanoes and caves – places of loneliness, silence and melancholy. At the same time, places of uncommon grandeur. Since 2004, the Swiss photographer Bernd Nicolaisen (*1959 in Aarberg) has been drawn to Iceland, the land of glaciers and geysers, to take his photos. Equipped with a large-format camera, he goes on fascinating expeditions deep into the interior of ice caves - the imaginary image always in front of his eyes. Neither humans nor animals have ever entered or seen the icy halls of mirrors before, in which bizarre ice and rock formations dominate the room and refract the light in a magical way. Viewed from a distance, Nicolaisen's photographs gain form and depth, while up close they break down into crystalline structures. Due to the extreme lighting conditions and the residual light that penetrates into the caves, each picture becomes a journey of discovery that is worth experiencing in this catalog.
