This publication documents the results of a teaching collaboration between the art collection and archive and the Expanded Museum Studies master's program at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. It was created against the background of a conservation survey of two collections of textile teaching aids and models by the artists Rosalia Rothansl and Mileva Stoisavljevic-Roller. The texts examine artistic methods of appropriation, decontextualization and reinterpretation of craft and artistic techniques and objects from the rural areas of the former Habsburg monarchy in the context of the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts and shed light on the challenges and potentials of dealing with historically evolved collections.

Die Publikation dokumentiert die Ergebnisse einer Lehrkooperation von Kunstsammlung und Archiv mit dem Masterstudiengang Expanded Museum Studies an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien. Sie entstand vor dem Hintergrund einer konservatorischen Bestandsaufnahme zweier Sammlungen von textilen Lehrmitteln und Vorbildern der Künstlerinnen Rosalia Rothansl und Mileva Stoisavljevic-Roller. Die Texte untersuchen künstlerische Verfahren der Aneignung, Dekontextualisierung und Reinterpretation handwerklich-künstlerischer Techniken und Objekte aus den ländlichen Gebieten der ehemaligen Habsburger-Monarchie im Kontext der Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule und beleuchten Herausforderungen und Potenziale im Umgang mit historisch gewachsenen Sammlungen.
