Publisher Note
This publication focuses on the street as the place where art today is created, and as a source of inspiration to young artists whose lives and art are marked by an urban and mobile lifestyle. As a public platform, the street always contains a political dimension as well, ranging from the search for identity to the class struggle for social justice. Then, as now, the subversive visual language of Street Art finds its way into pop culture. Each of the 30 artists contributing to this volume has found ways to weave art strategies into the fabric of street culture.
Included are interviews with Rita Ackermann, Charlie Ahearn, Kader Attia, Blek Le Rat, Tamra Davis, Brad Downey, Christian Eisenberger, Ari Marcopoulos, Glenn O'Brien, Evan Roth, Seripop, Rita Vitorelli. Published to accompany the exhibition at Kunsthalle Vienna, 25 June 10 October 2010.
