Taunggy Represent is a rich visual and cultural portrait of Shan State, the mountainous and diverse heart of northern Myanmar. Named after the state’s capital, the book offers a window into the photographer U Aung San’s intimate engagement with the region’s complex cultural tapestry.
We get aglimpse of a place where Shan, Chinese, Indian, Nepalese, Mon, and Thai influences intermingle, and where Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, and indigenous beliefs coexist.

Featuring vibrant rituals and moments of everyday life, the book highlights both the unity and diversity of ethnic groups such as the Wa, Pa’O, and others, offering a rare and personal insight into one of Southeast Asia’s most layered cultural landscapes.
