Publisher Note

With “The Locations” Margot Zanni presents a sophisticated book: Monographic in content, the publication takes on the character of an artist’s book through the direct implementation of the works.
Margot Zanni is a photographer, video and installation artist who works with inconspicuous locations. These offer space for projections and speculations and become occasions for stories. In her entire artistic work, the feedback between described life and real places is central. By dramaturgically intervening in documentary material and reassembling found objects and found footage, she develops new readings. At the interfaces of authenticity and fiction, undreamt-of contexts emerge and open up a new cosmos. The complexity of the media selection in Margot Zanni’s works refers to the complexity of the possibility of identifying places.
The handy, richly illustrated publication is supplemented by texts by Rayelle Niemann and Tim Zulauf, whereby Niemann refers to the projects Zanni presents, while Zulauf associates a parallel narrative to the titles of the works.
“The Locations” provides a convincing insight into a multi-layered work with numerous materials and offers a reprint of an original by reproducing the card series of the same name, a Readymade of Zanni.
