PATRICIA ESQUIVIAS (*1979 in Caracas, Venezuela. Lives and works in Madrid, Spain).

Since 2005, Patricia Esquivias has created videos that weave found images, history, and personal anecdotes into narratives that convey her insights about contemporary culture. Esquivias acts as narrator in these vignettes while the camera is filming her hands scrolling through images and videos on her laptop, and inserting physical pictures as she speaks. The connections that Esquivias creates in her work are often idiosyncratic and difficult to locate, offering the viewer an opportunity for contemplation and discovery.

In this issue of THE WORLD ACCORDING TO Patricia Esquivias introduces the work of Fernando Garrido Rodríguez, an architect whom she’d met by chance while doing research for a video project on a group of residential houses that were built in Madrid in the late nineteen-fifties. Following her intuition, she asked Garrido to show her some of his work and discovered an entire oeuvre of innovative coastal architecture dating from the early nineteen-sixties to today. Patricia Esquivias dedicates this magazine to Garrido’s work, which has scarcely been documented or published before.

Die sechste Ausgabe des Magazins THE WORLD ACCORDING TO… widmet Patrizia Esquivias dem spanischen Architekten Fernando Garrido Rodriguez, dessen Werk aus den 1970er Jahren sie durch Zufall entdeckt hat. Garridos architektonische Entwürfe utopischer Lebenswelten und sein Fundus an Zeichnungen von surrealen Architekturlandschaften sind bisher praktisch unveröffentlicht.

Patricia Esquivias (*1979 in Caracas, Venezuela) lebt und arbeitet in Madrid. Ihre Videos und Performances bewegen sich auf verwinkelten, assoziativen Pfaden, die bestimmte Faszinationen und willkürliche Begegnungen nachverfolgen. Dabei verwebt sie persönliche Anekdoten, Ausschnitte aus eigenen Arbeiten und die Beschreibung ihres Rechercheprozesses, der sie auf Umwegen zur Entdeckung von Garridos Werk geführt hat.
