Publisher Note
A collection of works approaching the charm of Toyo Ito's architecture, the second issue!
TOTO Publishing published "Toyo Ito's Architecture 2 2002-2014" on October 29, 2014.
This book is the second volume following the well-received "Toyo Ito's Architecture 1 1971-2001" (published in December 2013), and summarizes the activities of the world-famous architect Toyo Ito since 2002. It's a collection. Through these two volumes, you can get an overview of Toyo Ito's over 40 years of design activities.
This book introduces the project after the "Sendai Mediatheque" (2001), which greatly expanded the field of activity from Japan to overseas. Since the "Bruges Pavilion" (2002), we have introduced domestic and international works, projects currently under construction and planned projects, along with abundant photographs, drawings, sketches, and CG images. In particular, the National Taichung Theater, which is nearing completion, will feature the latest images from the construction site, allowing visitors to see how the space of the opera house is being built. In addition, the activities of "Home-for-All" that have been worked on since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 are also introduced.
In addition, as with Volume 1, the book features a conversation with architectural historian Terunobu Fujimori at the beginning of the book, as well as an interview-style dialogue with a staff member that provides a clear insight into Mr. Ito's thinking process.
It is a collection of works that fully incorporates the charm of Toyo Ito's architecture, which is becoming more and more mature, so it is a must-read for students who are interested in architecture as well as those who practice architecture.
