In the exhibition “Was macht die Kunst – Ankäufe der Stadt Zürich 2001–2006”, organized by the Presidential Department of the City of Zurich, the Helmhaus Zurich presents the latest acquisitions with over 40 artists and thus a diverse cross-section of Zurich's artistic work.
The purchase of works by Zurich artists does not stand in isolation, but belongs in the larger context of the city’s support for art and culture. This publication is devoted to this context and sheds light on historical, theoretical and practical aspects of the city's art collection, offering essays and materials on the subject of collecting.
In addition to the texts and the illustrated list of purchases, the publication, designed as a workbook, also shows three artists’ contributions that were specially prepared for the publication and thus becomes a collection item in its own right.
