Publisher Note
Yi Hui Born 1980 in Guilin, Guangxi Province. She works as a university instructor, teaching mathematics and computing science.
Yi Hui has always been interested in making art. From a young age, she was influenced by her father but did not get serious in photography until 2008. She had no formal training in photography. Initially she posted her work online in some photo blogs and began making friends. Through her friendships and exchanges with other photographers, Yi started entering her work at various exhibitions.
To Yi Hui, her motive of making photographs is rooted in her desire to document the people around her life. Her subjects are mostly female -- her daughter, her sisters, friends and relatives. She only photographs people who are extremely close and dear to her. Yi sees the process of taking pictures as a form of communication with her subjects.
