Publisher Note
When his mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, Marvin Böhm began to intuitively document his private life with the camera. He was less concerned with capturing his mother's suffering and illness than with a forward-looking "move on". Constantly dealing with the photos soon had a kind of therapeutic effect. Even if his mother appears again and again in the pictures, it was above all familiar situations and things, friends or everyday events that attracted his attention and were considered worthy of documentation. The reflection on death led Böhm to the little moments that make life worth living.
When put together, the recordings result in a photographic diary that is sometimes difficult to decipher, looks almost abstract, and then comes across as emotionally charged or full of confidence.
With their stylized black and white contrasts, the images convey a touching mood somewhere between drama and melancholy. And despite the actually intimate moments that they show, they also convey an almost universal character.
