Work Description

The photographic series 20.12.53 – 10.08.04 by Italian photographer MOIRA RICCI has been born out of the artist’s desire to revisit her personal history. Conceived and created after the sudden death of her mother, whose dates of birth and death form the title of the work, the series follows the path of working through things, in an attempt to rewrite the intimate and private mother-daughter relationship. Manipulating a large number of photographs of her mother, RICCI has inserted her own image, as if she had always been there. By intervening in these simple, everyday images taken from a family album, the artist lends form to nostalgia and loss, and to the desire to regain the continuity of her own story.
