Publisher Note
Après coup / Nachträglichkeit , “to carry [something] behind [someone]”, is my proposal (an edition) at the invitation of Jae Kyung Kim, founder of the gallery and publishing house einBuch.haus and Claudia De La Torre, for Calendar 2025, whose concept is to extend the exhibition space into the form of the book (calendar) and build bridges between international artists.
Calendar 2025 refers to Calendar 69, Segh Siegelaub's edition which organized an “international exhibition” of the “works” of 31 artists during each of the 31 days of March 1969.
The month of March was assigned to me.
March 1969 is 56 years away from March 2025.
The perfect concordance of the days (March 1 also falls on a Saturday) led me to question the effect of repetition, with all that it entails in terms of similarities and differences, influences and impacts due to the passage of time.
Après coup / Nachträglichkeit, the title of this edition, is a psychoanalytical concept that designates the reworking by the psyche of past events that only take on their full meaning and effectiveness in a time subsequent to their first inscription.
So I asked 31 international artists to replay and reinterpret “Calendar” and create a new edition.
