Publisher Note

Territori Intermedi is arranged as a collection of largely unpublished photographs, taken by Gabriele Basilico between 1985 and 2011.
The intermediate territories of Basilico are physical spaces regulated from time to time by those elements that the author indicates to us as vehicles to enter the work and read, and perhaps even breathe, its content. Spaces that expand into broad views where many events occur simultaneously, where life pulsates and spreads as in the great metropolitan arteries and alleys of Shanghai, or along the uncertain streets of Middle Eastern cities.
Ordering the contradictions of contemporary metropolises, exorcising the suburbs forgotten by architecture and urban planning attracts Basilico and stimulates his attention even more in seeking a new relationship with space.
In Intermediate Territories Gabriele Basilico reminds us that it is essential to immerse oneself in the image slowly to be able to grasp its internal coherence, the same slowness originally necessary for the photographer to assimilate the place and transform the experience into an image.
