Publisher Note
There’s a revolution going on in Italian bookstores! The last few years have seen a shake-up among the book covers of many of the legendary narrative series. Exploiting the creativity of a group of Italian illustrators of international fame
Cover Revolution!, edited by Melania Gazzotti, maps this phenomenon. With a selection of some of the best new covers by Franco Matticchio, Lorenzo Mattotti, Emiliano Ponzi, Guido Scarabottolo, Gianluigi Toccafondo and Olimpia Zagnoli, illustrators who have successfully brought new energy to Italian publishing, it shows how the potential of books sometimes considered classics can be enhanced with punchy and effective designs. The history of this change is also outlined in an essay by Stefano Salis and in the interviews, by Anna Zylicz and Ivan Canu, to two talented art directors: Riccardo Falcinelli of Minimum fax and Cristiano Guerri at Feltrinelli.
