Publisher Note

Ukraine-born photojournalist Dima Gavrysh (*1978) follows Inshallah with the series (freely translated "God willing") his view of the US war in Afghanistan. He grew up in Ukraine, but emigrated to the USA since 2004. This is the second time he has lived in a country at war with Afghanistan. As an "embedded journalist" he followed the conflict up close. However, his response to this was not to give a precise picture of the situation in a strictly photojournalistic manner. Instead, Gavrysh developed an artistic visual language that conveys strong impressions and emotions without reporting. In his work, the photographer mixes the romantic, heroic visions of war from childhood and his personal conflicts with the images he encountered in the war zone. Hypnotized by the complexity of Afghan chaos, Inshallah was shown at Photoquai - 4éme biennale des images du monde in Paris 2013.
