Le dannate del mare. Donne e Frontiere nel Mediterraneo (The Damned of the Sea. Women and Borders in the Mediterranean)
What do migrations do to women and what do women do to migrations?
For a long time, women have been absent from the great narrative of migration. Yet many of them leave their homes and loved ones to undertake the long journey across the desert and the Mediterranean.
Based on field research conducted at the borders of Europe, in Italy and Malta, this book is an investigation into the traces of survivors: in restoring the multiple facets of their paths and destinies, it declines the recent history of migrations in the Mediterranean from a feminine perspective, rejecting the stereotypical dichotomy that opposes the migrant-victim to the migrant-heroine, to adopt the point of view of women's direct experience.
The Damned of the Sea is a feminist book on female migrations across the Mediterranean.
