Publisher Note
The Ohio series is a break with convention in several ways. William Eggleston as early as 1976 controversy flared up - still in large circles only black and white photography was considered serious.
But the experiment that Brohm dared with Ohio goes on: the pictures taken with a medium format camera show run-down backyards and houses, cars, billboards and seemingly banal scenes from everyday American life. Only profane motifs can be seen in these pictures, which were taken in 1983/84 during a study visit to Columbus. Ohio tells of a point in the history of photography when a new visual language began to develop.
