Publisher Note

Working-class neighborhoods have become accustomed to only showing faults, tensions, failures… Decade after decade, articles, documentaries, sociological studies have insidiously drawn a picture without nuance, an anxiety-provoking amalgam of victimization and stigmatization.
Taking this reductive vision backwards to restore to these neighborhoods and their inhabitants their relief, their diversity, their vitality, such is the undertaking of this book.
Thanks to a large-scale photographic work, which shows the naked truth of these marginalized places, and to the collection of both lucid and sincere life stories, it is an unknown face of the "neighbourhoods" that emerges .
Through this gallery of portraits, an awakening suburb is revealed, bubbling with hopes, initiatives and fights, which struggles daily against the preconceptions that confine it. A suburb which, above all, fights so that its inhabitants are finally recognized as full citizens.

With photographs by William Alix, Dan Aucante, Hugues-Marie Duclos, Corine Tellier, Anthony Voisin.
