[…] Point & Shoot. It might literally sound like instructions for a handgun. Or rather, ‘look around you and shoot’. At the heart of it, there are thirty-six frames – little more than a metre and a half of film – and nothing else. The photographer has a single thought: to take photographs. He is poised between a ‘before’ which has just gone by and an ‘after’ which has yet to materialise, waiting for a shot which is already hanging in the air. Photography, in its purest form, is the reaction to this impulse. It’s the bridge between what has been and what will be: a moment of grace, one which is to the photographic act what a sock is to a foot. With the advent of digital photography, the practice of point & shoot was to change into something very similar but opposite: shoot & point. Looking around is no longer enough. […] Point & Shoot. Tradotto letteralmente vuol dire “punta e spara”. O meglio: “guardati attorno e scatta”. Alla base ci sono trentasei fotogrammi, poco più di un metro e mezzo di pellicola, e nient’altro. Il fotografo ha un solo pensiero: fotografare. È in bilico tra un “prima” che è appena passato e un “dopo” che deve ancora manifestarsi, in attesa di uno scatto che è già nell’aria. La fotografia, nella sua forma più pura, è la reazione a questo impulso. È il ponte tra ciò che è stato e ciò che sarà; un momento di grazia, che sta all’atto fotografico come una calza al piede. Con l’avvento del digitale, la pratica del point & shoot muterà poi in qualcosa di molto simile ma opposto: il shoot & point. Guardarsi attorno non basta più. “The Point and Shoot Series” è un’osservazione lunga 15 anni dei tratti distintivi e comuni che caratterizzano il paesaggio “periferico” occidentale. L’opera – descritta dagli autori come “Un viaggio nella marginalità contemporanea denso di suggestioni pop” raccoglie 80 immagini che intendono riproporre un mondo, quello peri-urbano, solo apparentemente ordinario e uniformato, dall’abitudine, al consueto.

Durante un “viaggio” durato quindici anni, Chietera e Tasca hanno fotografato indipendentemente il paesaggio periferico occidentale, riscontrando a posteriori analogie nell’approccio e nella composizione. Il risultato è una raccolta di circa ottanta fotografie a colori, che evidenziano le suggestioni e i dettagli della marginalità odierna, con un gusto pop dettato dalla scelta di utilizzare fotocamere compatte “point and shoot”.
