“Polis – What about Cairo” is the second magazine published to complement the illustrated book “Polis – Images of Cities”
While the picture atlas captures the world wordlessly, the magazine “Polis – What about Cairo?” is a status report based on language and concentrated on Cairo. It follows the first magazine “Essays zur Stadt / Talking about Cities”, which examines the living conditions of large cities from the perspective of different regions of the world. Where does Cairo find itself, where has it been since the Arab Spring? What about its growth, who is responsible for its socially acceptable development? What does aesthetics have to do with home, and what happens to the memory of a city if it does not include its poor in planning scenarios? When authors here describe Cairo's present from a professional and personal perspective, the result is a commitment to a city that defends its vitality and future under precarious political conditions.
