Publisher Note
Swiss Music goes back to a sound recording of the performance of the same name that took place in the ruins of Urgiz in Densbüren AG in summer 2017.
Gaia Vincensini: “I was invited by Thomas Moor to do a show in his off-space Urgizzy, named after the ruins.
I found this old logo of UBS (from the time when it was still called SBS) made of tin.
It is the same material that cowbells are made of, so I decided to use it as an instrument.
Thomas’ mother lent me a drumstick. I performed for fifteen minutes. Then I brought the instrument back to the art space with the audience, in a procession, and hung it up back as a sculpture.
Its title was Human Artefact (after all…).
The temporality of this piece takes place in a post-capitalist world where we long ago forgot what UBS or SBS meant.
The logo exists only through its own materiality. Stripped of its old power, it can reintegrate society with a useful and renewed purpose.”
